What is Field Notes?
Paul Galatis, September 2025
To be honest, I'm not entirely sure yet.
I run a business, I take a lot of photos and I tell many stories in real life. I also find myself mulling a bewildering range of topics all the time. So I created Field Notes as a place to jot down the things I’m learning, thinking about, photographing and noticing in business, life, and the random spaces in between.
It's not advice. There is no explicit focus or goal. It really is just a notebook that is nothing like Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok or LinkedIn. In fact, I have broken out in hives just typing those names. So I have tempered my expectations of any likes, pokes or pseudo-friends, and have opted instead for beautiful silence.
If you like something you see or read, you're welcome to send me a note and I'll do my best to respond. Perhaps we'll start a 1-to-1 conversation, like two normal human beings who miss the days when conversations, pats on the back and messages of appreciation didn't need to be shared in front of 35,000 strangers to have value.
Oh yes. I'll also send out an email newsletter once a month. I only want to send it to people who are genuinely curious to read it. If that’s you, I’d love to have you along for the ride.
But if it ever feels dull or not for you, please unsubscribe. There’s so much digital noise competing for our attention, you don't need my compendium of dangerous half knowledge to add to the cacocophony.
